Henry King directs this classic drama based on the novel by Franz V. Werfel. 14-year-old Bernadette Soubirous (Jennifer Jones) is enrolled in a Catholic school where she finds life extremely hard, often being shamed in front of her friends for not learning her sacraments. While out on an errand, Bernadette approaches a cave where she sees a mysterious lady shrouded in light and holding a rosary. When she tells her friends, in confidence, of her discovery, the news soon spreads across town and Bernadette finds herself the subject of gossip and ridicule as the masses believe her to be insane. Some do believe her, however, and she continues to visit the cave and do the things that the lady asks. Will Bernadette be able to prove that her vision is real?
