A bank robbery takes place and Colin (Russell Crowe) is the man behind the wheel of the getaway car. Midori (Youki Kudoh), an unhappily married Japanese woman, witnesses the crime, but Colin steps in to save her when his colleagues attempt to silence her for good. The couple flee cross country in a desperate search for freedom, and fall in love along the way.
