Drama and debut feature from co-writer and director Anna Rose Holmer. The film follows eleven-year-old Cincinnati girl Toni (Royalty Hightower) as she attempts to join a local dance troupe. Training at the same gym as the group, Toni first notices them while watching through the practice room window. After attending an open audition for new dancers, she befriends fellow hopeful Beezy (Alexis Neblett) and together the girls begin trying to master the routines. However, when Toni is the only member of the group not to be affected by a sudden series of mysterious and violent seizures, her quest to become accepted by her peers becomes even more difficult. The cast also includes Makyla Burnam and Inayah Rodgers. Synopsis Eleven-year-old tomboy Toni (a showstopping Royalty Hightower) is bewitched by the tight-knit dance team she sees practicing in the same Cincinnati gymnasium where she boxes. Enamored by the power and confidence of the strong community of girls, Toni spends less and less time boxing with her older brother, and instead eagerly absorbs the dance routines and masters drills from a distance, and even pierces her own ears in an effort to fit in. But when a mysterious outbreak of fainting spells plagues the team, Toni's desire for acceptance becomes more complicated. Gorgeously shot and with a mesmerizing score, THE FITS is a transformative experience and a marvellous portrait of adolescence.
