John Baron (Frank Sinatra) is a gangster hired by communists to kill the US President, whose route will take him through the sleepy California town of Suddenly. Baron decides that the best place for an ambush is the Benson household and takes over the house, terrorising the family of widow Ellen Benson (Nancy Gates).
