Following the mechanisation of the last batteries of horse drawn artillery, the King decided that a troop of horse artillery should be retained for ceremonies of state and declared that the Riding Troop of the Royal Horse Artillery would be known as 'The King's Troop'.Today, in addition to being trained fighting soldiers, the King s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, forms Her Majesty the Queen's ceremonial Saluting Battery.
